An Attitude of Gratitude

When it comes to handling difficult situations in life, how do you show up?

Do you find yourself complaining from the start? Or are you excited to meet this new challenge with a great attitude and confidence in God’s ability to carry you through?

1sts Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us to give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Notice that it says, IN all circumstances, not for all circumstances.

For example, if you’re in a horrific car crash, you wouldn’t thank God for broken limbs and a punctured lung, but you can be thankful that He will use that ordeal to draw you closer to Him, you can be grateful for physicians, modern medicine, and organ donors.

Novelist and poet Robert Louis Stevenson once said that the person who has stopped being thankful has fallen asleep in life.

So do you appreciate God’s provision in your life, or have you fallen asleep at the wheel?

Either way, my prayer is that you/we thank God for His grace, love, mercy, and wisdom—every chance we get. That we also thank Him for good times and seasons of adversity. And ask Him for a heart that’s appreciative of what He’s doing in and through us.
