The truly happy person doesn’t follow wicked advice, doesn’t stand on the road of sinners, and doesn’t sit with the disrespectful.
—Psalm 1:1 (CEB)
The people who occupy the most significant space in your life should also live according to God’s word and will.
I know that they won’t be perfect, but they should (at least) live by the same tenets of the Bible that you’re devoted to.
Look, we all know that two people can read the same book or watch the same movie and walk away with two different accounts — so by no means is God telling you that your closest friends need to think like you — only that they share the same foundation of your belief system in Him.
Psalm 1:1 tells us that God’s blessings come to those who don’t listen to negativity, live like the wicked, or mock God.
So to me, it’s pretty clear that if you want to receive God’s blessings, you’ll have to live in fellowship with like-spirited people who hold you accountable to your beliefs.
They’re not there to judge you, and they won’t be perfect and sinless, they’re (part of) the currency you need to get your fair share of God’s generous blessings.
