Happy Tuesday, and welcome to your daily dose of hope, courtesy of 1st Thessalonians 5:18 (CEB). In today’s reading, you will be confronted by one of the best-known verses in the Bible. A verse with a very specific command:
Give thanks in everything. Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
As you can see — God wants you to give thanks IN every situation, not FOR every situation.
Are you willing to acknowledge His mercy and not blame Him when things don’t go your way?
Will you thank Him even when it’s not convenient for you?
God isn’t telling you to be thankful FOR Cancer, or Corona, or any number of horrible situations you may find yourself in.
He’s telling you to be thankful IN times of stress and pain because it makes Him happy to know that you hold Him in high regard. Your gratitude lets Him know where He stands with you.
The truth is, God is more interested in your character than your comfort.
We see examples of this throughout the Bible. Time after time, God uses people even if they’re uncomfortable. People like Moses, Noah, Job, and Jesus to name a few.
I’m pretty sure Jesus was very uncomfortable during every agonizing moment of the crucifixion.
The bottom line is — it’s your willingness to thank Him for waking you and giving you the gift of life during the coronavirus that pleases Him.
Even if your last breath was painful — thank Him for the breath you’re about to take, instead of complaining about the pain you just endured.
