Avoid stupid arguments…They are useless and worthless. Give at least two warnings to those who cause divisions, and then have nothing more to do with them.
—Titus 3:9-10 (ERV)
Maybe there’s someone in your life that feeds on negativity and pursues conflict with everyone who crosses their path. And as someone who occupies space and time with them, you’re probably (also) on the receiving end of their wrath.
How does that affect your health?
I bet it shows itself through increased stress (for you) and a lack of accountability for your friend.
The good news is — God doesn’t want you to be a proverbial punching bag. He wants you to be an agent of peace and prosperity. However, if you’re living in a constant state of suffering, you’ll never have peace, nor can you be a calming influence on those around you.
Today’s reading is quite clear that a couple of warnings are all you need to offer before distancing yourself from the little rage-monsters you’re allowing to occupy your life.
Listening to a playlist of complaints and hostility from your friends, family, or whomever will only lead to poor health and avoidable anxiety.
Do yourself a favor — take God’s advice — If they continue to cause trouble after a second warning, then don’t associate with them.
Love them from afar.
